    THE GREEN VASE

    WILLIAM R. CASTLE, JR.
    NEW YORK
    DODD, MEAD AND COMPANY
    1912
    Copyright, 1912
    Published March, 1912
This is the 1st Edition of this book.
Hardbound in very good condition, 406 pages, measures approximately 5 ¼" x 7 ¾", no dust jacket.
The boards are covered in cloth with titles blind stamped in light green and a design resembling a vase also stamped on the front board. They are clean and straight with modest edge wear to the boards, a few areas of weakening areas at the edge of the spine, but no actual tears or fraying, no fading or bumps.
The interior reveals contents that area clean and tight with hinges intact. Modest age toning is noted but no foxing and no previous owner names, notations, marks, creases or tears.
THE GREEN VASE is the story of a young aspiring Bostonian woman, of perhaps middle class upbringing, privileged with some education enabling her to prove presentable in the lower rungs upper class society. She marries a young man of considerable potential, already prospering but finds that his dedication to hard work and a thrifty lifestyle fall short of her dreams. The story takes place in Boston during the period of instrialization and union activities that lay the groundwork for the inevitable romantic triangle.
THE GREEN VASE was William Castle's first literature attempt of significance. It was published in 1912 by Dodd, Mead but apparently did not receive the kind of interest that prompts reprinting. In 1913 Mr. Castle published HAWAII PAST & PRESENT again by Dodd Mead this time, a non-fiction tour-type narrative of the Hawaiian Islands that proved highly successful having been reissued many times over the years. Although I find no evidence of THE GREEN VASE ever having again been printed, it is clearly noted on the title page of all of the subsequent HAWAII PAST & PRESENT editions.
