Description
This puzzle is of a gorgeous scene called "The Cascade". I don't know the artist but it is a really beautiful scene. It is a 1930's vintage puzzle by Four-O-Craft Puzzles, San Francisco, CA
This is a puzzle with tight, well cut pieces.
It is made of thick plywood with interlocking pieces and random knobs. This puzzle comes from a lending library that was on Divisadero Street in San Francisco. Inside the box there is a label that warns of a fine for missing pieces. It also states that the puzzle must be returned completed! The box also has a lending library card plus a note from someone to tell they have put the puzzle together 5 times and it was very difficult.
The size is 12" by 16" and the box says it has 415 pieces, and the library card says 418 pieces, but you can see by the back of the puzzle that all the pieces are there.
It has very deceptive edges. I have pictured a couple of corners to show how unusual the corners are.
But the most important part of this puzzle is you have no picture of the finished product! I worked on this puzzle for over a month and had to get up and leave it several times because it was so frustrating. Sometimes if I got 3 pieces together in a sitting I was happy. I have
completed 4 of these wonderful puzzles and always am amazed at the craftsmanship of the jig-saw cutter. It feels like a great accomplishment when you finish.
Taking the puzzle apart is another challenge because the pieces fit so tightly together. You have to go very slowly. It is very tight once it is completed. I have shown the back of the puzzle so you can see that all the pieces are there with no replacements.
